Overview

Aston Manor’s basketball  academy is built on 40 years of tradition and success. The academy  has consistently produced city, county and national basketball champions, as well as regularly having players that have represented England and Great Britain basketball at both youth and full international level.

The academy is part of our Aston Manor sports academy, one of the first of its kind in Birmingham, offering an excellent opportunity for talented boys and girls to pursue their passion while gaining important qualifications that will enable them to be successful in their future careers.

Our ambition is to be the best 16-19 performance centre in the United Kingdom. We aim to recruit, develop and support talent to achieve success, and we provide student athletes with the best possible basketball experience by placing them at the centre of it.

Over the past seven years, Aston Manor basketball academy has enjoyed unprecedented levels of success, both at regional and national level.

  • Aston Manor Basketball Academy players have been awarded contracts from professional basketball teams in Germany, Ireland, the UK and Italy.

In additions to securing a number of prestigious professional contracts, a number of our players have been awarded scholarships at leading American colleges and schools. Other players have continued their basketball careers at top British universities.

Our coaching staff have amassed an incredible level of experience spanning four decades from playing at elite level school internationals to playing at professional level.

Our coaches bring a wealth of experience in player development and professional mentoring. They have uncompromising standards and expect players to be diligent, hard-working and accountable for their actions and behaviours.

Student Profiles

Sistus Anochie

Sistus is not only an outstanding basketball player who contributed to numerous games and our huge basketball success, but his hard work and diligence is also evident academically.

Situs achieved outstanding A level grades in Math, Chemistry and Biology, plus a grade A for his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Now studying Computer Science at the University of Newcastle.

  • Ryan Anglin

    Ryan attended Aston Manor Academy from 2016 to 2019. He studied a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, Development, Coaching and Fitness. Ryan graduated from Aston Manor Academy in 2019. with a triple distinction star. During his time at Aston Manor Academy Ryan played a key role in the team that won the 2018/19 Northern Conference Championships and were ranked inside the top four in the country. Ryan was selected for the Northern Conference all-star team in the same year. Upon leaving Aston Manor Academy, Ryan was offered a scholarship to join Dodge City Community College in the USA. Due to Covid, Ryan returned from the US and currently plays for Derby Trailblazers in Division 1 of the national league.

  • Zack Powell

    Zack attended Aston Manor Academy from 2016 to 2019. He studied a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, Development, Coaching and Fitness. Zack graduated from Aston Manor Academy in 2019. with a triple distinction star. During his time at Aston Manor Academy Zack played a key role in the team that won the 2018/19 Northern Conference Championships and were ranked inside the top four in the country. Zack was voted Northern Conference defensive player of the year and made the Northern Conference all-star team in the same year. Zack, upon leaving Aston Manor Academy, joined Manchester Giants BBL team and became the youngest point guard to start a BBL game. Zack has played professionally in Ireland and currently plays for the Reading Rockets.

  • Frank Madubuku

    Frank Madubuku joined Aston Manor in year 12 having never played basketball before. Frank Studied double BTEC Sport and a BTEC in Law achieving double distinction in his BTEC Sport Devlopment, Coaching and Fitness Diploma and a Merit in his BTEC Applied Science course. Frank remained with us for a third year in which he studied and passed his EPQ, achieving a C. In his third year, Frank was voted the Most Valuable Player in North England and was selected in the Northern Conference all-star team. Frank was co-captain of Aston Manor’s 2021/22 Northern Conference Championship winning team who were ranked number six in the country. Frank was offered scholarships to The University of Northumbria and TMG prep school in California.

  • Akol Ring

    Akol Ring attended Aston Manor Academy from 2017 to 2020. He studied a National Diploma in BTEC Applied Science, an AAT Accounting Qualification and completed an EPQ in his post graduate year. Akol graduated from Aston Manor Academy in 2020 with a triple distinction in his BTEC Applied Science, a double distinction in his AAT Accounting qualification and obtained a B grade in his EPQ. During his time at Aston Manor Academy Akol played a key role in the team that won the 2018/19 Northern Conference Championships and were ranked inside the top four in the country. Upon leaving Aston Manor Academy, Akol gained a Scholarship to study and play Basketball at North Eastern Community College in Nebraska USA. Akol was then offered a scholarship to attend American Student Accreditation College in Miami. He has received further scholarship offers to attend NCAA Division 2 Schools in the USA and has also received offers from professional clubs in Spain.

  • Conroy Hayden

    Conroy attended Aston Manor Academy from 2016 to 2019. Conroy studied a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, Development, Coaching and Fitness and graduated with a triple distinction star. Conroy was selected for and represented Team GB from 2015 to 2018. During his time at Aston Manor Academy Conroy played a key role in the team that won the 2018/19 Northern Conference Championships and were ranked inside the top four in the country. Conroy was selected for the Northern Conference all-star team in the same year. Upon leaving Aston Manor Academy, Conroy was offered a scholarship to join Gillette Community College in the USA. Due to Covid, Conroy returned from the US and was offered a scholarship to study and play basketball at Loughborough University and with the Loughborough Riders Division 1 National League Team.
