Relationships, Health & Education (RSHE)
RSHE is a key component of wider student personal development at Aston Manor Academy. Our intention is to prepare students with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society. We promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive RSHE programme in the Sixth Form. This is designed to help our students deal with the difficult moral, social and health-related issues that may arise in their lives and become well-informed and responsible members of society.
Our Sixth Form PSHE programme is based on the PSHE Association’s sequenced, spiral programme that builds on prior learning from Key Stages 3 & 4. Our RSHE programme covers three core themes:
1. Living in the wider world
2. Relationships
3. Health and wellbeing
Our RSHE curriculum develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills which will enable children to access the wider curriculum and prepare them to be a global citizen now and in the future roles within a global community.
It also promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, preparing them for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences for later life. This allows students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. It also helps young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. The focus of sex and relationships education equips young people to make safe choices, navigate the online world with a critical eye and help them to understand where to get support.
We teach RSHE alongside the rest of the school on a rolling, weekly timetable, as well as in assemblies and tutor times. All RSHE teaching takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school mission statement and values.
