Structure and Content 

Component 1

A Study of Religion

This component gives learners the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and broad study of their chosen religion, covering themes ranging from religious figures and sacred texts to practices that shape religious identity.

Component 2 

Philosophy of Religion

This component gives learners the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and broad study of fundamental philosophical themes, ranging from arguments for the existence of God to the use of religious language.

Component 3

Religion and Ethics

This component gives learners the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and broad study of fundamental ethical themes, ranging from ethical language and thought to free will and determinism.

Assessment 

Component 1 – Written exam: 2 hours (33.3%)

Component 2 – Written exam: 2 hours (33.3%)

Component 3 – Written exam: 2 hours (33.3%)

Undergraduate degree options 

With an A-level in religion, you can consider applying to study for a degree centred around teaching, counselling, social work or youth work.

Possible Career Options

 There are three main ways of applying religious studies in the world of work:

Careers where it is important or useful to have knowledge of what really matters to people such as healthcare, childcare, medicine, psychology and customer services.

Research and investigatory report writing techniques learned in studying religion, such as law, police work (forensic), psychology, public services and management.

Careers where you need specific knowledge of religions such as teaching, social work, archaeology, museum work, fine art, conservation/natural history, architecture, youth work and ministry.

Entry requirements

To secure your place at Aston Manor Sixth Form, you must achieve five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (including English and maths at grade 4).
